Solstice L89 is an endangered male southern resident killer whale, Orcinus orca. He was born in 1993 and has a brother Skana L79 (b.1989). Solstice is most often seen traveling with his mother Spirit L22 (b.1971).

aquagreen: British Columbia, Canada; Rachael Griffin's passion for the oceans ignited during her formative years, driving her to pursue Marine Biology at the University of British Columbia. Specializing in killer whale behavior, bioacoustics, and photo-identification, Rachael's journey epitomized dedication and discovery. Notable projects included recording Bottlenose dolphin signature whistles in Baja, Mexico, and identifying Offshore killer whale calls at the Bamfield Marine Science Centre. Her study of a solitary false killer whale off Bowen Island revealed rare insights into their behavior. In Nootka Sound, Rachael delved into the vocal repertoire of L98/Tsu'xiit/Luna, deepening our understanding of killer whale communication. Her research, spanning from behavior calls to underwater sound levels, contributes significantly to marine science. She currently mitigates ocean noise levels from marine industry and identifies individual marine mammals through photo-identification. Rachael's journey underscores the power of passion and commitment in unraveling the ocean's mysteries, inspiring future generations to protect our marine resources.
