Rachael Griffin BSc RPBio is an experienced marine-mammal researcher and wildlife photographer located in Surrey, BC. She graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Major in Marine Biology.  She specializes in killer whale behaviour, bioacoustics, and photo-identification. Her cetacean research includes determining Bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) signature whistles in Baja Mexico. She studied at the Bamfield Marine Science Centre and revealed new Offshore killer whale calls.  At UBC she studied the behaviour of a wild solitary false killer whale (Pseudorca crassidens). She discovered it significantly responded to recognized sounds. Rachael revealed the vocal repertoire of L98, an isolated southern resident killer whale (Orcinus orca) L98 (Tsu'xiit, Luna) in Nootka Sound, BC. She researched northern resident killer whale vocalizations at UVic, and found a difference in foraging and beach-rubbing behaviour calls. Rachael is an experienced marine-mammal observer and sound level environmental consultant. She currently works as an Aquatic Science Technician for Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
